High achievers, particularly those in communications and PR, are burning out.
It’s time to treat ourselves better - for the sake of ourselves, our loved ones, and our careers. I empower business leaders to get mentally and physically fit so they can shine in every aspect of their lives.

Award-Winning PR Executive
At Edelman and Weber Shandwick, I led campaigns for more than 10 global technology brands and a branch of the United States military. I have also served on the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Oregon board as well as its president in 2016. I received the Oregon PRSA’s Olga. M. Haley Mentorship Award in 2020. I am also the monthly Workplace Wellness columnist for PRSA's Strategies and Tactics Magazine.
Public Speaking Experience
As a public speaker, I have presented health and wellness and public relations best practices to thousands of people across the country. From professional organizations like the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), to Fortune 500 companies like Amazon and UnitedHealthcare, to graduate and undergraduate students from the University of Oregon, I've delivered more than 100 virtual and in-person workshops throughout my career.
I grew up in Vancouver, Washington, just over the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. A proud only child of a registered nurse and an engineer, I grew up with two fantastic role models who were my biggest cheerleaders and the kindest people you could ever meet.
For more than 40 years, my mother worked her way up in her hospital as an evening supervisor, then running entire nursing departments. All the while packing my lunch, taking me to soccer practice and putting up with general teenage angst. God bless my mother!
My father was influential in so many ways. He loved to exercise. He was eager to have me start weightlifting at an early age. While I focused more on playing basketball and soccer, he was very wise with his interest for me to prioritize my physical well-being and ultimately inspired me to do what I’m doing today.
Weight Loss Journey
By 2007, I weighed more than 350 pounds. I was breaking chairs in restaurants, had trouble sleeping during the night because I was experiencing sleep apnea, and struggled to walk up a flight of stairs. A frequent business traveler and public relations professional working 50-60 hour weeks, I struggled with how to deal with stress and thrive in our industry. Long flights sitting in coach, uncomfortable chairs in restaurants, and general embarrassment with being severely overweight were handled by eating too much and exercising too little.
Even worse, my unhealthy lifestyle caused me to feel incredibly negative, which impacted how I acted around people. I wasn’t my usual, cheerful self. I allowed my poor health to prevent me from fully being myself or experience life to its fullest.
I became motivated to get healthier after becoming engaged to my now-wife, Christine, in 2007. This led me to lose more than 100 pounds over nine months - and I’ve kept it off to this day.
After trying every method available, I realized that small, incremental, and sustainable changes over time would lead to a mental and physical transformation. Because I no longer have sleep apnea, my sleeping hours are much more restful. Because I’m well hydrated throughout the day, I don’t wake up with tension headaches or dry mouth as I did in the past. And because I sleep better, I feel more refreshed and productive throughout my day. I’m also in a better mood and feel more confident in myself. This helps me show up for my family and my business.
Christine saw me at my absolute worst, still said yes because she loved me and believed in me, and ever since, she’s been my accountability partner through and through. And when I told her I wanted to pursue this business venture for the next phase of my life, she didn’t even blink. She’s been incredibly supportive and influential in telling my story and her own perspective as a human resources executive to play a role in leading corporate wellness initiatives that have a sustainable impact.
Launching Chasing the Sun
In 2017, I was nearly 10 years into my 150-pound weight loss journey. I was also almost two decades into my public relations career. Most significantly, my father passed away in February 2017.
After he passed away, I was looking for a way to pursue something I’m passionate about, have knowledge about, and find a renewed purpose. After chatting with a personal trainer friend, I decided to obtain my personal training and health coaching certifications. I knew that I had the life and professional experience and passion for helping people like me find a healthy path for their lives.
In the fall of 2019, I decided to go “all in” and empower business leaders to get mentally and physically fit so they can shine in every aspect of their lives.
Today, I provide health programs and coaching services for working professionals, particularly those in communications and public relations.
As a recovered PR professional, I understand the immense pressures of a high-flying career. It’s very hard to prioritize your mental and physical well-being when so many people are relying on you.
It IS possible to prioritize your physical and mental well-being without hurting your work performance. My programs shift mindsets and provide actionable tools to help you establish a healthy lifestyle. You’ll learn to rethink your relationship with food, time, and exercise.
When I am not working, I am a proud husband to my incredible wife, Christine, and puppy parent to our sweet Labradoodle, MollyMoh! On weekends you'll find us cheering on our favorite Portland Timbers, Portland Thorns, U.S. Men's and Women's National soccer teams, supporting local businesses, and feeling blessed to live in the best region of the world.
How I'm Different
I’m privileged to have met and worked with incredible coaches and trainers, and I am continually learning through ongoing educational opportunities. But I see a gap in how health and wellness is taught, especially to high-achieving professionals: Mindset needs to come first.
As a coach and speaker, I empower people to make better decisions by thinking differently about their lifestyle choices. Before any tip, trick, or tool can take root, you must first shift your mindset and approach. I’m the coach who can help you establish healthy mindsets, first, and then tackle the physical transformation you desire.
When you work with me, you get empathy, practicality, and impact. Whether your goal is to change your weight, maintain sustainable habits, or just feel comfortable going to the doctor again - you’re in the right place.
You deserve a second chance at life!
